Andrew Miller brings a unique blend of legal and business experience to his role as Chief Financial Officer of the Los Angeles Innocence Project (LAIP). He has been instrumental in managing and advancing LAIP since its founding in September of 2022.
Andrew earned his undergraduate degree from Loyola Marymount University, majoring in Marketing with a concentration in Business Law. He then obtained a J.D. from Loyola Law School, specializing in Corporate Law, and an M.B.A. from the Loyola Marymount University College of Business Administration.
Since assuming the role of CFO in September 2022, Andrew has been a driving force behind the inception and growth of LAIP. He spearheaded the organization's formation as he incorporated LAIP and obtained its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. His responsibilities encompass a wide spectrum, overseeing financial planning, accounting practices, budgeting, payroll, audits, tax compliance, banking, insurance, and human resources. Andrew also manages the development and execution of fundraising, marketing, community outreach, board composition, and donor strategies.
Before joining LAIP, Andrew gained valuable experience as a Commercialization and Entrepreneurship Associate at the California NanoSystems Institute Business Incubator at UCLA. His role involved strategic consultation, portfolio management, and fostering relationships among entrepreneurs, investors, and mentors. He also developed and implemented data-driven metrics, assisted in rebranding the incubator, and sought out new partnerships to enhance the incubator’s entrepreneurial capabilities.
While attending law school, Andrew served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Sandra R. Klein at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California, which further honed his legal research skills and understanding of bankruptcy law.
Andrew's comprehensive background in law, finance, and entrepreneurship, combined with an unwavering passion for the cause, cements his pivotal role in the organization's pursuit of justice for the wrongfully convicted. Andrew's multidimensional expertise and steadfast dedication make him a valuable asset in advancing LAIP’s mission.
